Thomas Müller sees the fight for the German championship as practically decided. He talks about the consequences for FC Bayern. He has a suggestion for the home European Championships.

Bayern star Thomas Müller congratulated soon-to-be champions Bayer Leverkusen on an impressive series of successes.

The championship “will probably go to Leverkusen. I’m frustrated that we haven’t managed a better performance and can’t show our potential too often,” wrote Müller in his newsletter. “But at this point it is also important to me to highlight the Werkself’s performance. Being unbeaten at this point in the season is really strong. My congratulations on this successful series.”

The Werkself’s lead increased to 13 points last weekend due to Müller’s FC Bayern Munich mistake against Borussia Dortmund. The title is only possible for Leverkusen on matchday 29 at the earliest. “The table situation doesn’t leave much room for speculation. Leverkusen are not showing any weakness and we’re not delivering. The disappointing performance against BVB and Leverkusen’s last-minute win unfortunately fit into this picture again,” complained Müller. “At FCB we now have to eat out the soup that we brought on ourselves.”

Play with the national team

Müller is much more pleased about the national team’s journey to the European Championship at home. “We showed against two real top-class players what is possible when we function properly as a team. These were long-awaited moments of success,” said Müller after the victories against France and the Netherlands.

18 years after the home World Cup, in which the national football team enraptured Germany with a summer fairy tale, the 34-year-old has a wish. “So I suggest that we look forward to the European Championships in June together. It will be a great football festival and a great chance for Germany to present itself as a good host,” explained Müller. “Each and every one of us. I always think it’s nice when you feel welcome and comfortable in other countries. I also hope the same for our guests during the European Championships.”
