FC Bayern Munich: Dayot Upamecano is out injured – defense alert for coach Thomas Tuchel

Dayot Upamecano was substituted for Konrad Laimer due to injury after 77 minutes in the 3-0 win against SC Freiburg on the last Bundesliga match day.

The 24-year-old was actually supposed to play for France during the international break, but canceled the European Championship qualifier in the Netherlands (October 13th) and the friendly against Scotland (October 17th).

Bayern are reportedly not expecting a longer absence – the central defender will still have to expect a two to three week break from training.

According to “Kicker”, he will miss the games at 1. FSV Mainz 05, at Galatasaray (Champions League), against SV Darmstadt 98 and probably also the DFB Cup game at third division team 1. FC Saarbrücken. It is also questionable whether Upamecano will be 100 percent fit again for the top Bundesliga game at Borussia Dortmund (November 4th).

FC Bayern: De Ligt and Gnabry are running again

For coach Thomas Tuchel, this creates a bottleneck in defense. Most recently, the third central defender alongside Upamecano and Min-Jae Kim, Matthijs de Ligt, was also unavailable with a knee injury.

Raphael Guerreiro is also missing again with a muscle injury. After all: As the club announced, de Ligt at least started running training on the pitch again on Tuesday.

After the departures of Lucas Hernández (Paris Saint-Germain) and Benjamin Pavard (Inter Milan) in the summer, Bayern only have three central defenders in their squad. The club recently refrained from bringing back Jérôme Boateng, who is currently without a club.

In the DFB Cup game at Preußen Münster (4-0), Tuchel recently had no central defenders at his disposal; Right-back Noussair Mazraoui and midfielder Leon Goretzka helped out.

Almost two weeks after breaking his forearm in Münster, attacker Serge Gnabry started running training on Wednesday.
