On the afternoon of April 1, Oliver Kreuzer was speeding down the autobahn with his assistant coach Zlatan Bajramovic to watch a friendly in the Netherlands when he received an email from his club. There, reading in the car seat, Kreuzer found out that he had just been released as sports director at the second division club Karlsruher SC. End, off, after seven years. It was not an April Fool’s joke, confirmed a spokesman for the club when asked by the German Press Agency after some fans on the social media channels had expressed this assumption. He was “shocked,” said the long-time FC Bayern professional. Perhaps Kreuzer was at least a little glad that the bad news hadn’t also ended up in his spam folder.
