Coach Thomas Tuchel already sent a “congratulations to Leverkusen”, while Joshua Kimmich castigated himself and his teammates – and seemed almost desperate. “I wonder how it can happen that we have such an attitude in a game like this,” he said after the 0:2 (0:1) against Borussia Dortmund, the first home defeat in almost ten years the BVB.

Sports director Max Eberl also seemed horrified. “That was my first German Clasico,” he said, “and I just didn’t have enough energy, too little will, far too little of everything you want to see on the football field.” “I can’t explain what he saw,” he added, “that was very, very modest, that wasn’t Bayern Munich.”

Kimmich complained that the performance was “completely frustrating” and “completely inexplicable” for him and that he “thought it was a friendly game and not a home game against BVB.”
