In 2019, Bayern’s option to buy James Rodriguez expired. The Colombian wanted to leave anyway and join the Rojiblancos. That didn’t work.

Ex-Bayern star James Rodriguez has forgiving on his time in Munich looked back and revealed which clubs he really left FCB for in 2019. The Colombian wanted to switch to Atletico after two years on loan from the German record champions. But his regular club at the time, Real Madrid, didn’t play along.

James said on his TwitterChannel: “I left Bayern because I had already settled everything with Atletico. But Madrid didn’t let me go in the end.” So he spent the following 2019/20 season with Blancos, where he hardly played a role, especially in the end, and finally switched to Everton FC on a free transfer.

James won two championship titles with FC Bayern

After James himself in the past not always positive about his engagement in Munich he said: “It was two excellent years at Bayern. I played at a high level with great players. We had a top team and I had a lot of fun.”

The 30-year-old won the Bundesliga twice and the DFB Cup once with FCB. However, he also had problems with then-coach Niko Kovac. “Life is about gaining experience and learning from it,” said James. A footballer doesn’t train himself, but has to “listen to what the bosses want.”

Meanwhile James plays in Qatar with Al-Rayyan SC. He moved there a few months ago for a fee of eight million euros. However, he recently announced would like to change again and play in the USA at some point.
