FC Barcelona: Xavi probably wants Trincao back early – loan termination for Barca even feasible?
The new Barca coach Xavi apparently wants to bring Trincao back from his loan early. Barcelona’s financial troubles could get in the way.
Xavi Hernandez, recently unveiled as the successor to the sacked Ronald Koeman and new FC Barcelona coach, would like to bring offensive player Trincao back to Camp Nou early from his loan to Premier League club Wolverhampton. The Portuguese newspaper reports Record.
Accordingly, Xavi is said to have instructed the Barca bosses to negotiate with the Wolves about an early termination of the loan in January. The English had loaned the 21-year-old Portuguese last summer for a fee of six million euros until the end of the season, for 2022 they have a purchase option of 30 million euros.
But even if Barcelona should agree with Wolverhampton on a return of Trincao in January, the Catalans would face further hurdles with their financial problems. Barca are plagued by a mountain of debt of over a billion euros, in order to register new players or players returning from a loan at LaLiga, one would first have to sell or lend professionals from the current squad.
For Trincao return? Barca want to get rid of de Jong again
Therefore, Barcelona are currently also interested in sending Luuk de Jong, who was loaned from Sevilla FC just over two months ago, back to Andalusia early. Trincao moved from Braga to Barcelona in 2020 for a € 31 million transfer fee. Josep Maria Bartomeu, then President of Blaugrana, called him at the time “the best U21 player in Europe”. In the past season, the six-time Portuguese international was mostly a substitute player, but still made a total of 42 competitive appearances (three goals, two assists).
Nevertheless, Trincao was awarded to Wolverhampton at the start of the season, where he has shown decent performances so far. To date, he has played eight times in the Premier League and is one of the regular staff of the eighth table.
