FC Barcelona: Ronald Koeman rejects partial waiver of severance pay
The dismissal of Ronald Koeman is likely to cost FC Barcelona quite dearly – also because the coach does not waive his severance payment.
After his dismissal from FC Barcelona, Ronald Koeman apparently refused to waive part of his million dollar settlement.
Like the Catalan TV channel TV3 reported, Barca reportedly asked Koeman to waive four of his € 12m settlement. The Dutchman had refused the request and insisted on his compensation.
Xavi could become Koeman’s successor at Barca
The dismissal of the 58-year-old, who had to go after a 0-1 bankruptcy at Rayo Vallecano on October 27, will be expensive for the financially troubled club. Barcelona recorded losses of € 481 million this year. Overall, the Blaugrana push a mountain of debt in the amount of 1.35 billion euros in front of them.
Koeman was dismissed from the first ten games with just 15 points after the weak start. Sergi Barjuan initially took over responsibility as his successor, the 49-year-old otherwise looks after Barca B. Former Barca star Xavi is considered the top favorite to coach.
