FC Barcelona – Ronald Araujo confirms: “Had some offers from very big clubs”

Ronald Araujo has recently extended his contract with FC Barcelona. The central defender had a few other options.
Central defender Ronald Araujo has confirmed that he had several offers from well-known clubs before his contract extension at FC Barcelona.
“I’ve had some offers from very big clubs,” Araujo said Mundo Deportivo. The 23-year-old Uruguayan decided at the end of April to extend his contract with Barca, which expired in 2023, by three more years until 2026.

It was “always clear” to him, “that I want to continue here and reach a quick agreement. I’m very happy here, my family is very happy and I believe in the project we have here.”
The offers from the other clubs would have brought Araujo more salary, but for him the financial aspect was not the top priority: “Money is important, but it is not the most important thing. I have prioritized other things. I believe in this club, which is the best club in the world.”
Araujo has now developed into one of the best central defenders in Europe with the Catalans. The Uruguay international joined Barcelona in 2018 and made his LaLiga debut in October 2019. In total, he has made 79 competitive appearances for Barca to date.
