FC Barcelona – Oscar Mingueza reckons with ex-Barca coach Ronald Koeman: “No more trust”

At the end of October, Ronald Koeman was fired from FC Barcelona. With Oscar Mingueza, a Barca professional spoke critically about Koeman’s work.

Defender Oscar Mingueza from FC Barcelona has been critical of the work of his ex-coach Ronald Koeman.

“The team no longer had any confidence in his ideas,” Mingueza told the TV broadcaster TV3. “We weren’t good, either individually or collectively. If the dynamics aren’t good, everyone does what they can, but we didn’t believe in what we could either.”

Barca: Mingueza had celebrated his breakthrough under Koeman

Koeman was dismissed at the end of October after only a year in office due to unsuccessfulness. “There wasn’t the atmosphere we needed. The people weren’t happy,” said Mingueza. He and his teammates felt that “a change was needed.”

The fact that Mingueza, of all people, is so critical of Koeman is quite surprising. After all, the 22-year-old Spaniard made it to Barca’s first team under the Dutchman and is now even a national player.

As Koeman’s successor, Barca recently presented club legend Xavi, who will make his debut in the city derby against Espanyol on Saturday evening (9 p.m. live on DAZN). “I am sure that Xavi will be fine with us,” said Mingueza. “The idea he’s pursuing is a very good one. He entered the locker room with a very solid charisma. People believe in what he says, and that’s very important.”
