FC Barcelona is looking for potential newcomers on the defensive and has probably come across an old friend.

FC Barcelona are apparently looking for a new central defender to consider a possible return of Marc Bartra. Like the Spanish newspaper Sports reported, the Catalan club has already contacted the 30-year-old and asked about the chances of a potential transfer.

The former Spanish international comes from Barca’s youth academy La Masia and played for the pros from 2010 to 2016 before moving to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga for two years. Since 2018, Bartra has been playing for Real Betis, who have won eleven of their last twelve games with him.

Bartra is fondly remembered at FC Barcelona

To Sports-Information, he is said to have attracted the interest of his ex-club, which has fond memories of him since he left Catalonia. The club could play in the cards that a former teammate of Bartra is now in charge of Xavi and that he promoted him as a “teacher” at the time.

Bartra is only under contract with Real Betis until June 2023 and could therefore be a cheap reinforcement for the defensive, which has been causing the club for several years. Eric Garcia does not seem to enjoy Xavi’s trust, Barca would also like to hand over Samuel Umtiti, but cannot find a buyer for the 28-year-old.
