FC Barcelona: Dani Alves gets the shirt number 8

After five and a half years, Dani Alves is back in Barcelona. And the Brazilian will wear an iconic shirt number in the future.

New signing Dani Alves will wear the number 8 shirt in his second time at FC Barcelona. The Spanish top club officially announced this on Tuesday.

The number 8 was worn at Barca for years by club legend Andres Iniesta, among others. Players like Hristo Stoichkov or Bernd Schuster also had the 8 on their backs, most recently Miralem Pjanic, who is currently on loan to Besiktas, carried it.

Alves had returned to Barca a few days ago after five and a half years and signed a deal until the end of June 2022. The new head coach Xavi, with whom Alves spent seven years together as a player at Camp Nou, spoke out in favor of signing the 38-year-old right-back without a club.

Dani Alves was with Barca from 2008 to 2016

Alves had last played for Sao Paulo FC in Brazil for two years. However, he broke down his tent there in September.

Alves wore the Barca jersey from 2008 to 2016, winning three Champions League and six Spanish championship titles with the Catalans during this period. In total, the Brazilian international made 391 competitive appearances for Barcelona during his first time at the club, in which he scored 21 goals and 101 assists.
