After Clement Lenglet hugged Robert Lewandowski with a smile after the CL-Aus, there was criticism. Now the French reacted.

FC Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet has responded to criticism about his photo with Robert Lewandowski. Following the sobering 3-0 defeat at Bayern Munich and the resulting loss in the Champions League, the Barca central defender was photographed joking with his opponent on the pitch.

In one Instagram post the 26-year-old Frenchman expressed his “sadness about the result”. In the photo he is smiling at something “that just happened at that moment. It is a reaction that in no way reflects my feeling for the result.”

FC Barcelona: Press beats Lenglet

Lenglet was heavily attacked for the photo in social networks and the Spanish press. The medium Market Research Telecast even wrote of “a picture of shame”. El Chiringuito arranged: “The image that will outrage every Cule!”

According to Lenglet, everyone knows “my commitment and my love for my job, for Barça and especially for its fans”. Lenglet moved from Sevilla FC to Barcelona in 2018 for around 36 million euros. During the bankruptcy in Munich, like his colleagues, he showed an underground performance. “Today we are very sad, but now we have a mission: to give Barca back what the club deserves.”
