Favorites of the week: Probably the best rapper in the world at the moment – culture

A Hannah Arendt marathon in Berlin, “mooooood swings” with Little Simz, the new Twin Towers, 20 years of “Nippelgate” and the perfect singer: the recommendations of the week from the SZ feature section.

House rap: “Drop 7” by Little Simz

So mood swings, i.e. “mooooood swings”. Very wonderfully British oiled, and underneath a moon-cold house techno beat, surrounded by warm, great crashing percussion instruments. Little Simz, real name Simbiatu Abisola Abiola Ajikawo, is currently probably one of the best rappers in the world in terms of technology and mental agility, and in terms of flow anyway, likes to work with such contrasts. So here: periodically bad mood, but then a, you’ve wanted to use this word for a long time: club banger. There are a few of them on this EP called “Drop 7”. Seven songs, a few of them shorter than two minutes, which suggests that you’re not exactly experiencing Simz’s magnum opus here. But a refreshing piece of music for the “transitional album between winter and spring” genre that urgently needs to be established. Jacob Biazza
