Dwayne Johnson has been part of the Fast & Furious series since 2011. He actually didn’t want to shoot another episode after his last appearance as Luke Hobbs in 2017. Now he seems to have changed his mind.

Action star Dwayne Johnson (51) returns to the screen in his previous role as Luke Hobbs from the “Fast & Furious” series. “HOBBS IS BACK,” the actor shared on Twitter and Instagram. He described the planned standalone film as a “fresh new chapter” leading up to “FAST X: Part 2”.

“Fast X” (German title: “Fast & Furious 10”) starring Vin Diesel and Jason Momoa was released in mid-May. The final part of the action series is planned for 2025 with “FAST X: Part 2”.

Screenwriter Chris Morgan (“Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw”) provides the script for the still untitled film about Hobbs. Johnson and Diesel are on board as producers, the Hollywood Reporter reported. Nothing was initially known about the content and the further cast alongside Johnson.

Reconciliation between Johnson and Diesel

Johnson has been part of the fast car series since Fast and Furious Five (2011). He last played US agent Luke Hobbs in Fast & Furious 8 (2017). In 2019 he co-starred with Jason Statham in the spin-off film Hobbs & Shaw.

Diesel (55) had publicly asked his fellow actor Johnson to return to the “Fast & Furious” series. “You have to come, don’t let the franchise down, you have an important role to play. Hobbs can’t be played by anyone else,” he wrote on Instagram in 2021.

Wrestling icon Johnson repeatedly countered in interviews that he would not shoot another “Fast & Furious” episode. US media reported differences between the two stars. That is now in the past, Johnson said in a video message on Thursday. Last summer he and Diesel approached each other again. For “Fast & Furious 10” Johnson could already be persuaded to make a short cameo appearance in an end credits scene.
