Fashion: Caspar David Friedrich on the jacket and vegan grape shoes – style

A nice idea in theory: grow so-called microgreens such as radish or rocket sprouts on the windowsill or balcony yourself and always harvest them fresh to sprinkle them on soups, salads or sandwiches. In practice it often looks different. The good intentions then fail because you forget to water regularly, or you are out of town for a few days and when you return you only find dried up remains in the pot. The Hamburg start-up Ingarden has the right accessory for people without green fingers or botanical leisure: You place three seed cushions in the pretty, minimalist ceramic bowls, pour water over them once (yes, really only once!) and set the timer. The fully automated indoor garden does the rest of the work all by itself: thanks to daylight LEDs and a patent-pending smart irrigation technology (starter set with a ceramic bowl from the limited edition and seven herb pads 119 euros). After a week you can harvest organic microgreens, for example sprouts of red cabbage, broccoli, mustard, garlic, kale and pak choi. Incidentally, the nutrient-rich superfood is eaten raw, the aroma of the microgreens is reminiscent of the grown vegetables, but is finer and often with a pleasant spiciness. In many cafés, the sprouts are not only sprinkled on avocado bread, they are also mixed into smoothies. The good news: There is no season in the indoor garden, the microgreens grow all year round – and unlike outdoor gardeners, you can always stay cool when the weather forecast is coming (ingarden.com).

Caspar David Friedrich on the skateboard, the prince of German romanticism with flips, grinds, grabs & airs? But please! The label Rassvet, which emerged in the context of a skater community around the Moscow fashion designer and photographer Gosha Rubchinsky and the skateboarder Tolia Titaev, has now launched a capsule collection that revolves around two works by the celebrated Dresden painter: “Morgen im Riesengebirge” and “Two Men by the Sea”. The photo prints in a monochrome color palette can be found on two skateboards, a blanket, a denim jacket and various t-shirts and look amazingly coherent there. The collection was photographed on Mont Saint Michel, which exudes a very appropriate romantic melancholy. T-shirts cost 71 euros, skateboards 84 euros, denim jackets 432 euros (doverstreetmarket.com).

Quietly, quietly and secretly, appointments crept in again in these late spring weeks: Parents’ evening on Wednesday, theater on Thursday, and Friday morning: could that be a good moment to start the outdoor pool season? Around 11? Two years of the pandemic made you throw away all sorts of calendars because they were no longer necessary. But if you need analogue memory help again in the middle of the year, you should take a look at this weekly planner from the Regensburg stationery experts redfries keep. A pretty tear-off pad with 50 sheets, the paper is from sustainable forestry, – and at the top left an encouraging smiley smiles at you and reminds you: “Start your day with a smile!” (redfries.com)

Fine gossip: the biography “Anna” by Amy Odell about Vogue boss Anna Wintour.

One of this week’s funniest video snippets showed Anna Wintour being asked for ID by a staff member at the entrance to an event in New York, and then standing there in complete disbelief until someone else rushed over and quickly waved her through. This is the editor-in-chief of the American Vogue probably not happened in the last 45 years. But the harsh reality is that the city’s bouncers are getting younger and aren’t reading magazines anymore. Despite this, a new biography about her has just been published – “Anna” by Amy Odell – who promises to finally show the real face of the woman behind the big sunglasses. Of course, it is just as little authorized as the previous one, “Front Row” by Jerry Oppenheimer from 2006. Unfortunately, the really big revelations and character studies are not to be expected, but interesting details: The 72-year-old was with her previous employer New York Magazine known for throwing pennies from her wallet in the bin, she wanted to have a baby’s double chin retouched for a photo shoot. Best Gossip: Andy Wahrhol thought Wintour was “terribly badly dressed” (28 euros, simonandschuster.com).

Replacing leather with botanicals is becoming increasingly popular in shoes, bags, belts and even car seat covers. The manufacturers imitate tanned animal skin with the help of pineapple leaves, apple peels or mushroom mycelium. The French start-up Zeta As a basis for his vegan sneakers, he chose a raw material that accumulates in abundance in his home town of Bordeaux: wine pomace. Zèta uses the skin, stalks and seeds of the grapes that are left over from wine production to make the faux upper leather that the plain white sneakers are made of. Because you still need plastics for supple soles, recycled plastic bottles from the Mediterranean are used for them, and cork is also used for the insole. The shoes are sewn together in Portugal. An EU sneaker as Emmanuel Macron would like it to be! (zeta-shoes.com)
