David de Gea has spoken out about the rumors of a Man United departure. The Spaniard would like to stay in Manchester.
David de Gea’s future at Man United is uncertain. The contract of the longtime number one expires – as of now – next summer. Despite the many rumors about his departure, the 31-year-old Spaniard has now made it very clear that he wants to remain in goal for the Red Devils.
David de Gea has been between the posts at Manchester United since 2011. The Spanish goalkeeper’s current working paper expires next summer. The Red Devils have an option to extend the contract by a year. Recently, however, rumors have increased that the top earner could be let go.
The 31-year-old himself would like to remain a regular keeper at Old Trafford. Following Sunday’s 2-1 win over Everton, de Gea explained to Gea bt sports: “Of course I would like to stay here for more years, let’s see what the future brings. But I’m very, very happy here.”
However, when asked by ex-United player Rio Ferdinand when he would sign a new contract, de Gea held back: “I don’t know. I’m just concentrating on the games and on doing the best for the team to help”, he used the usual footballer phrases.
United coach Erik ten Hag is said to be unsure whether de Gea fits his intended style of play. There are rumors that the Red Devils could try to pry away Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid next summer. The Rojiblancos keeper is reportedly not feeling particularly happy in Madrid despite his recent contract extension.
The future will show whether the rumors will be confirmed. The fact is that de Gea is just two games away from making his 500th appearance for the Red Devils.
