Fan who died at Taylor Swift concert suffered heat stroke

The death of a Brazilian fan of Taylor Swift in the middle of a heatwave, during a concert of the American star in November in Rio, is the consequence of a phenomenon of “thermal exhaustion”, according to the autopsy report published Wednesday by Brazilian media.

The 23-year-old young woman, among the 60,000 spectators of the first of six shows of “The Eras Tour” given in Brazil, died due to “thermal exhaustion due to diffuse exposure to heat” after a “cardiovascular shock » and hemorrhage from the lungs, which led to “sudden death”.

This document from the civil police of the State of Rio de Janeiro was revealed by local media. Contacted by AFP, the institution indicated that it did not wish to share these publications and did not confirm them.

Many fans complained about the ban on bringing bottled water inside Nilton Santos Stadium when the temperature was around 60 degrees on the day of the concert.

” Devastated “

The day after this tragedy, Taylor Swift said she was “devastated”, postponing the following concert by two days, which also began an hour later than initially planned (8:30 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m.).

The boss of the company responsible for producing Taylor Swift’s tour in Brazil, Serafim Abreu, CEO of Time For Fun, then presented his “apologies”, recognizing that it would have been necessary “to take additional measures, such as the installation of shaded areas outside (the stadium where the concert took place) or the change of the concert schedule”.

He explained that the victim had been “quickly taken care of” and that the medical team had “chosen to transfer him to hospital after about an hour of emergency treatment”.

Like several Brazilian cities in the center and southeast of the country, Rio faced a strong heat wave in November, with sweltering temperatures unusual for the southern spring.
