Fan scandal escalates in the Netherlands! Ajax against Feyenoord canceled

On Sunday afternoon, football in the Netherlands showed its ugly side. The classic between Ajax Amsterdam and Feyenoord Rotterdam was canceled after several unpleasant incidents – and the fan anger then escalated.

Fans of the Dutch record champions Ajax caused the game to be stopped in the 55th minute. At this point Rotterdam was leading 3-0. The Dutch newspaper Telegraph wrote of a “low point in the arena.”

The police were then deployed in front of the arena and, according to media reports, used tear gas. Some fans tried to storm the Johan Cruijff Arena, and some entrances were destroyed, as pictures on social media show.

Some masked chaotics even gained entry by force, as videos prove.

Loud ANP Police officers were even pelted with stones, bottles and fireworks.

Ajax supporters had already caused a disruption in the first half by setting off and throwing pyrotechnics. When flares flew onto the pitch again ten minutes after the half-time break, referee Serdar Gözübüyük whistled off the game.

Among other things, pyrotechnic items flew towards Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther. How the game will be scored will be determined in the coming days.

Like the Dutch portal De Telegraaf reported, the technical director is said to have stormed Ajax coach Maurice Steijn’s coaching room and other offices on the training ground on Friday, to the annoyance and astonishment of many employees, and spoke of a possible dismissal of Steijn in the event of a defeat against Rotterdam. According to information from the medium, the trainer was not on site when Mislintat made his move.
