False alarm: Smartwatch lures hundreds of rescuers and helicopters astray – Bavaria

A smartwatch incorrectly sounded the alarm and triggered a large-scale operation including a rescue helicopter near Bodenwöhr (Schwandorf district). Around a hundred emergency services from the fire department, water rescue service and rescue service were on their way to a pond on Friday, as the police announced on Saturday. Accordingly, several people were believed to be in need of water there.

A helicopter initially searched the waters with a searchlight. Finally, the smartwatch owner could be reached by phone. According to a police spokesman, she was at home and well and did not notice the false alarm. It initially remained unclear why the smartwatch triggered the alarm. The operation was over after around half an hour.
