Iris Schüller and Ben Schulze from the sports faculty at Munich Technical University are researching fairness and how teachers and coaches can help children learn to treat each other with respect – and not “do the Neymar”.
Freiburg’s football coach Christian Streich recently complained about the unfair game by Juventus Turin and cited handball as a role model. And no matter which game you’re watching, every few minutes kickers complain to the referee, simulate pain or try to provoke the opponent. Does that affect the young generation that runs through the city in Munich in red or blue jerseys and pays homage to the stars of the sport? Ben Schulze, 33, teaches sports and health didactics at the TU and also works for the German Handball Federation in the area of children’s and school handball and in teacher training. Iris Schüller, 35, is a teacher and is doing her doctorate at the same chair on the subject of social skills, fairness and fair play.
