It sounded like the awakening from a political deep sleep: Federal Interior Ministers Nancy Faeser (53, SPD) announces “stationary border controls” at the German external borders with the Czech Republic and Poland!
There is good reason to think that most migrants are currently coming into the country illegally via these routes – and municipalities and states have been registering land in reception centers for months.
But according to BILD information, the SPD woman is deceiving the country!
According to information from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Faeser is planning exactly the opposite:
▶︎ NO stationary border controls!
▶︎ NO permanent border posts on the main routes of smugglers and illegal migrants to Germany!
Reason: Faeser would have to register such real border controls with the EU. Only then are they permitted – like on the border between Germany and Austria.
Faeser’s ministry evaded the concrete, simple yes/no question from BILD as to whether Faeser was planning this so-called notification to the EU.
Ministry is messing around
Faeser himself has her spokesman conceal this from BILD – declared as pure information in the “background” (i.e. not for printing): “The additional controls that take place flexibly on the smuggling routes and are intended to interrupt them probably do not have to be submitted to the EU Commission be notified.”
That’s right: you don’t have to register for regular controls in Brussels. And “flexible” is the opposite of “stationary”!
When asked again, the ministry continued: “Additional controls to combat smuggling crime are also possible without notification. Unauthorized entries can also be countered with measures to prevent entry and terminate your stay.”
But that doesn’t solve the Federal Police’s biggest problem: If Faeser doesn’t register the controls with the EU and doesn’t have regular, fixed controls carried out at German border crossings, then the Federal Police can’t carry out any rejections at the border!
Frustration is growing in the ministry
A top official from Faeser’s ministry describes it like this: The federal police would again only serve as “a collective taxi for illegal migrants to the nearest reception center” in Saxony, Brandenburg or Mecklenburg. “Instead of preventing illegal entries through rejections, the federal police only count at the border and take over the onward transport.”
Frustration is growing in Faeser’s own ministry.
The top official told BILD: “We don’t understand what the minister is doing and saying. These aren’t stationary checks, they’re just a veiled search. We are deceiving people.”
MEANS: In fact, Faeser is only planning mobile controls and hopes to be able to operate in the Czech Republic and Poland. “In addition, joint measures should effectively prevent unauthorized entry into Germany in the Czech Republic and, if necessary, also in Poland.”
Only: If that doesn’t work or Poland (“if necessary”) doesn’t cooperate with Faeser’s preliminary checks on its territory, then Germany will have to register and include in the asylum procedure everyone who makes it even a centimeter over the border…
On Wednesday in the Interior Committee of the Bundestag, Faeser suddenly changed language: Now she also had to delete the word “stationary” for her “border controls” and replace it with “flexible”. And instead of direct border controls, her ministry announced that it was now about “additional controls to monitor the border area”…
