Dear Argentina national team,

I say to the great people of Argentina: Cheers! Yes, that’s how I start my letter, because today you are the whole country that beats in 45 million hearts.

You have a great responsibility to bear this winter. You will represent everyone from General San Martin to the people of the Malvinas and all the other Argentines who have flown our flag over the years.

Guys, I’m very excited to see how united you are as a team this year. You seem to be much more than just a football team, you play the game like friends on the street.
I believe you have found the true meaning of football, the passion and camaraderie that underlies the beautiful game. When someone messes with one of you, they mess with all of you.

We are very optimistic about this World Cup because I think we have the best team of the tournament. We understand that Lionel Messi and the rest of the team have dreams of winning the World Cup for the Argentine people.

I want to tell you that since Germany 2006 I have drawn most of the Argentinian flags that travel to every World Cup. The most epic was in Brazil in 2014, when Godoy Cruz fans designed a 30 x 100 meter flag with portraits of Maradona, Pope Francis and Messi and the slogan “national pride”. I felt like I was wearing the Argentina number 10 shirt when I saw it.

I send many flags to every World Cup to cheer for the team, but I’ve never had the opportunity to travel to a tournament myself. It would be a lifetime dream to go to an Argentina World Cup match and I hope that one day I can do that.
Guys, please keep the 45 million home in your hearts and remember every game in Qatar how much it means to them. And remember, our 12th man, Diego Maradona, will be rooting for you to bring home the trophy.
