Faced with soaring gas prices, an energy supplier offers a regulated tariff

This is news that will do good for the wallets of Strasbourg residents. In 2018, Electricité de Strasbourg, the main local gas supplier, chose to withdraw from regulated tariffs, leading to higher bills for its customers who were unable to take advantage of the tariff shield set up by the government, as reported Rue 89 Strasbourg. This Monday, its only competitor in the sector, ekWateur, decided to offer Strasbourg residents a gas offer at the regulated price.

A choice matured after a conversation between Julien Tchernia, the co-founder of the company, and a Strasbourg resident last week. “He contacted me to explain the situation and express his dissatisfaction, and he convinced me! », relates the president of ekWateur, after having « made two or three calculations with [son] associated. »

Strasbourg, test city

This is a turnaround for the energy supplier present in Strasbourg since 2018, which had initially followed the same line as its competitor. This new offer, which will come into effect from June 1, 2022, will not be unconditional, specifies Julien Tchernia: “It is only intended for new customers or customers at the time of renewal of their offer. »

For the time being, Strasbourg is the only city affected by the ekWateur system. “This is an opportunity to test. And in this kind of case, the advantage is that if a supplier makes an offer, the others generally follow”, smiles Julien Tchernia.
