The nine victims of the racist attack four years ago will be remembered with a demonstration and a silent remembrance in Hanau.

The memory of the racist attack Hanau on February 19, 2020 should, in the opinion of Hanau’s mayor Claus Kaminsky (SPD), bring all of Germany to assess its position in the fight against right-wing extremism year after year. “We are in a worse position in the fight against the right than we were on February 19, 2020,” he said. “The good news is: We see in the nationwide demonstrations that many people are standing up against it.” On the fourth anniversary of the attack, there will be countless events in Hanau on and around February 19th.

The largest event of this kind will be the demonstration this Saturday (2 p.m.) called for by the February 19th initiative. Relatives and those affected by the attack as well as supporters have come together. The rally is intended to remember the victims and send a “strong signal against racism, anti-Semitism and right-wing extremism,” according to the call. The organizers are expecting numerous participants to come from all over Germany. The demonstration is registered for 3,000 people.
