Explosion of a building in Jersey: “No survivor”, the terrible announcement of the local authorities

The search and rescue operation has switched to a recovery operation.

This Saturday morning, a blast hit a building St Heliercapital of the island of Jersey. The building consisting of six apartments was destroyed. At first, three deaths were announced by the local authorities who continued the search throughout the night, in freezing cold.

Unfortunately, this Sunday morning, Kristina Moore, Chief Minister of the island, announced the terrible news: “We have now moved on to a recovery operation”. Mean by that that there are no survivors, says the BBC.

Gas leak ?

If three bodies were found, the investigators believe that the tragedy could have caused a dozen victims, even if the doubt persists as to the exact number of the occupants of the building at the time of the explosion.

On Friday evening, firefighters went to the scene for a suspicious smell of gas. The hypothesis of an explosion following a gas leak has not been confirmed.
