In explosions at a pro-Iranian military base According to Iraqi sources, a member of the militant group has been killed. There are also said to be at least eight injured, the state news agency INA reported on Saturday, citing the Iraqi military agency Security Media Cell. One of them is said to have been a member of the Iraqi army.

As a result of the explosions on Saturday night, a fire broke out on the site. Investigations are currently underway to determine the origin of the explosions. According to initial findings, they were not triggered by “military actions”. Both members of the pro-Iranian Popular Mobilization Forces and members of the Iraqi armed forces were stationed at the site.

Israel blamed

A representative of the responsible Babil governorate previously spoke on Iraqi television of air strikes. The Kalsu base of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) in Babil province in central Iraq was hit by rockets or drones early on Saturday. The pro-Iranian militia “Islamic Resistance” accused Israel. In response to the attack on the PMU base in Babil, the group said it attacked a “vital target” in the southern Israeli coastal city of Eilat.

The group is a kind of umbrella group for pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, which have been operating together under this general name since the terrorist attacks by the Islamist Hamas on October 7th in Israel. The Israeli military did not comment further. It said it was investigating the case.
