Petrol and diesel have become slightly cheaper in the past week. But compared to the oil prices on the world markets, the fuel is still far too expensive, criticizes the ADAC.

Motorists only feel a slight relief in fuel prices at the petrol pumps. The price for a liter of Super E10 has fallen by 3.2 cents to an average of 2.048 euros within a week. The price of a liter of diesel fell by 1.9 cents to 2.154 euros per liter. This is shown by ADAC calculations based on nationwide surveys.

According to Germany’s largest automobile club, fuel prices are still “unreasonably high”. This was also shown by evaluations of the prices for Brent crude oil and the US dollar in comparison to fuel prices. “While oil and dollars were at a similarly high level on March 1st and March 29th, gasoline cost around 22 cents more on March 29th than on the first of the month. Diesel was even almost 40 cents more expensive than four weeks ago,” according to the ADAC .

industry should be examined more closely

The automobile club says it welcomes the plans of Economics Minister Robert Habeck from the Greens to strengthen the market transparency office for fuels at the Federal Cartel Office.

The ministry announced yesterday that it intends to give the agency more powers to control petrol and diesel prices. According to agencies from Habeck’s ministry, the Bonn authority should also target the production of fuels and wholesale in the future. “The current situation must not be used as a cover for unfair competition or hidden agreements,” according to circles of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
