Exhibition: The future was yesterday

Günter Radtke worked as a press illustrator, illustrator and painter. He was a co-founder and chief illustrator of the magazine “Stern” for over 50 years.

Inspired by the many different topics for which magazine and book publishers needed image material but it did not exist, Günter Radtke designed hundreds of visions of the future, some completely absurd, some feasible and adopted by today’s visionaries.

The variety of topics was great: the conquest of space and the deep sea, transport systems for rail, road, water and air, energy production from atoms and hydrogen, urban planning for large numbers of people and food production.

The exhibition “The Future Was Yesterday” presents an excerpt of these visions and honors the creative imagination of Günter Radtke, who leaves “pure illustration” far behind in his work.

Guests can discover the future of today in yesterday in the rooms of the municipal art collections.

There is a diverse accompanying program surrounding the exhibition (workshops for children, guided tours, matinée). Further information and the catalog can be found in the city of Salzgitter’s events calendar (www.salzgitter.de)
