Exhibition on the history of hip-hop in the Schirn in Frankfurt – Culture

Nobody knows the founder of rap anymore, even though his name was Hercules. Kool DJ Herc, who invented the hip-hop method at block parties in the Bronx in 1973 with a mix of looped parts of dub and disco records and his own lyrics spoken over them, will be 70 next year and has no health insurance. But the style of music that the Kingston-born Clive Campbell released into the world is now the most streamed music on the planet. After all, the time of his New York parties for 25 cents is considered the beginning of the hip-hop era. The 50th anniversary was celebrated last year with a major exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art, which has now been re-arranged for German audiences in Frankfurt’s Schirn.
