Excursions: Record travel guides: ten special places right on your doorstep

The leaning tower is not in Pisa, but in the small town of Suurhusen in East Friesland. The narrowest house squeezes between two buildings in Bregenz. And the steepest cog railway in the world winds up the Pilatus above Lake Lucerne in Switzerland in half an hour.

Has these and other superlatives Cornelia Lohs in the book “Travel guide of records – 100 outstanding places in Germany, Austria and Switzerland”, compiled, which is now in Conbook publisher has appeared. The author from Heidelberg did not classify the attractions according to geographical criteria – that is done on the maps at the beginning of the book – but divided them into the subject areas of nature, buildings, transport, history and curiosities.

Unusual destinations in the province

When reading the 100 records in total, each of which is presented with a text, photo and useful information such as how to get there, costs and GPS coordinates, we not only come across well-known items from the Guinness World Records book, but also discover places in secret and some weird superlatives.

This is how the “Travel Guide of Records” becomes a work that encourages excursions at home or short trips to neighboring countries Austria or Switzerland and inspires amazement.
