Exasperated by car traffic, residents block a boulevard

Operation punch this Thursday morning by residents of the collective of the four boulevards (Berthelot, Orient, Rabelais and Vieussens) in Montpellier. For several months, these residents have been pointing to the explosion of car traffic under their windows since the implementation of the new traffic pattern in the Hérault prefecture.

Thursday morning, in the middle of rush hour, residents blocked the axis at Boulevard Berthelot to demand the reopening of Avenue Albert Dubout, now reserved for bicycles. On November 14, the collective had carried out the same blocking operation, but at the intersection of rue Frédéric Bazille and boulevard Rabelais.

Thousands of additional vehicles

Thousands of additional vehicles now use these boulevards, which are now among the most congested in the city. “The four boulevards have become the only bypass south of the Ecusson, deplores a member of the collective. All transit traffic passes through us. »

The new traffic plan, with the closure to traffic of several axes and the Comédie tunnel, aims to stop transit traffic in Montpellier.
