Ex-president had ‘highly confidential’ documents

A recording that could put the defense of Donald Trump in difficulty. CNN revealed on the show “Anderson Cooper 360” details a conversation where the ex-president explains that he has a secret Pentagon document outlining plans for an attack in Iran. During this two-minute audio recording, the Republican politician is heard referring to “highly confidential” files. Trump tells one of his collaborators that a soldier gave him a document, which remains classified.

“Now we have a problem”, then reacts an employee, who realizes the illegality of the situation. Facing a series of charges, Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to 37 charges in connection with the alleged handling of classified documents at his private residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

Unauthorized persons were able to consult classified documents

In July 2021, the billionaire had given an interview in his Bedminster complex to journalists who were working on a biography of Mark Meadows, his former chief of staff. The audio recording comes from there. According to the indictment, at least four unauthorized persons present were kept informed of classified information.

“The audio recording provides context that proves, once again, that President Trump did nothing wrong,” said Steve Cheung, spokesperson for Donald Trump’s campaign.
