Ex-policeman kills 23 children in a nursery before committing suicide

A man attacked with a gun and knife a nursery in Thailand, killing 32 people including at least 23 children, in the province of Nong Bua Lamphu, in the north of the country. Police Colonel Jakkapat Vijitraithaya said the shooter, a 34-year-old former police officer, also killed his wife and child. The attack began at 12:30 p.m. (8:30 a.m. in France) in a nursery, before the assailant fled by car and hit several pedestrians, according to Jakkapat Vijitraithaya.

The shooter, Panya Khamrab, was sacked from his post as lieutenant colonel last year because of drug use. He committed suicide shortly after the shooting, Thai police said.
