Marvin Compper has taken over Markus Gisdol’s coaching job at Lokomotiv Moscow and is defending his stay in Russia.

Former Bundesliga professional and ex-national player Marvin Compper has explained why he has stayed with the Russian first division club Lokomotiv Moscow despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “We came here in October 2021 to change something: We brought a philosophy to the entire club, from top to bottom. I feel a responsibility for it: towards the people who trusted us,” said the 36 -year-old coach to the sports picture.

According to Compper, “many foreigners work in the capital’s club, not just Russians. The people we met here are people with a good heart and have nothing to do with politics.” He continued: “The situation that we find: There is a regular, normal everyday life here.”

Compper: “Then I would reassess the situation”

However, the former defender does not completely rule out leaving sixth-placed because of the political situation and says: “I like my job and I feel safe: If that were to change, we would reassess the situation. I look from day to day .”

According to Compper, the current situation can also be felt at his employer, so many people are “depressed, thoughtful and withdrawn because of the situation”. But he summarizes: “We as a team are trying to pull together, to concentrate on our job and not to let the group down.”

After the former Bundesliga coach Markus Gisdol left his job as head coach at Lokomotiv Moscow due to the dramatic political situation and left the club, assistant coach Marvin Compper took over the job at the capitals.
