The former President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), Jürgen Thumann, is dead. The BDI announced that he died in Düsseldorf at the age of 80. Thumann was president of the association from 2005 to 2008. “Jürgen Thumann made a very important contribution to strengthening international relations between German industry and Germany as a business location,” explained BDI President Siegfried Russwurm. “He significantly shaped our association with his great political instinct and his decades of responsibility as a family entrepreneur. With Jürgen Thumann, we are losing an outstanding personality who has worked with extraordinary commitment for the interests of German industry.” His particular focus was on economic relations with North America. “Jürgen Thumann was a passionate transatlanticist,” said Russwurm.
