Harasara is a cool idyll with snow-covered forests. When Takumi wanders through them, there are hardly any signs of civilization, only the winter sun glows sweetly behind the trees. The small town feeds the people who live in it. At the beginning of “Evil Does Not Exist”, which opens in cinemas this week, you see Takumi and one of his neighbors fetching water from a small, crystal-clear stream. A ritual for four hands, the canisters are for the small udon restaurant where the villagers eat. Only with the water from the stream does the pasta taste the way you like it.
