Evicted squatters attack landlord to reclaim premises and seek redress

The case is not trivial. Two young squatters, who illegally occupied premises located in the 9th arrondissement of Lyon, attacked the owner in order to recover the accommodation, but also to obtain compensation. Will they win? The Lyon court, which considered the issue on Tuesday, will deliver its judgment on March 14.

In the meantime, the young squatters believe that they should not have been kicked out before March 31. They claim 5,000 euros for this, reports Progress.

Twenty occupants

Eighteen months ago, the owner of this abandoned building – an SCI – initiated eviction proceedings to drive out the twenty people who had taken possession of the premises. Justice had then left the occupants until March 31 of this year to make their bundles. But on January 23, the building was walled in and placed under surveillance, on the pretext that the premises had been emptied for forty-eight hours. However, two young squatters made it clear that they had not yet collected their belongings there. Hence their legal action.

For its part, the SCI has quantified the amount of repairs to restore the premises at 512,000 euros. His lawyer asked that the two complainants be sentenced to 3,000 euros in compensation for abusive proceedings.
