Eventim shares collapse after Jan Böhmermann broadcast – media

It has often been seen that central bankers, CEOs and high-ranking politicians can influence stock market prices with their statements. In this case, it could have been Jan Böhmermann who influenced a share value in the German M-Dax. Large, medium-sized companies are listed in the M-Dax, one of which is the ticket provider CTS Eventim. Its shares rushed down more than nine percent on Monday – and stock market analysts attribute this to the program broadcast on Friday evening ZDF Magazine Royale by Jan Böhmermann back.

Böhmermann made the Eventim company the topic. In the article “With fantasy fees to the event empire” he addressed the market power of the provider and criticized the sales fees for tickets as too high. Now investors seem to be reacting – and punishing the stock.

Eventim’s numbers actually look excellent right now, the low triggered by the Corona crisis seems to have been overcome. In the first quarter of 2023, sales were almost 30 percent higher than at the beginning of 2019, i.e. the last year that was not yet affected by the Corona crisis. In the years 2020, 2021 and partly also in 2022, numerous events were canceled due to the pandemic protection measures.

Now the coffers are apparently full again. “The results show that interest in live entertainment is unbroken,” said CEO Klaus-Peter Schulenberg when the figures were presented. Böhmermann sees the more than 272 million euros in corona aid that Eventim is said to have received from the state as the reason for the enormous growth in sales.

Eventim has been criticized several times in the past. The Federal Association of Consumers is suing the ticket provider because buyers do not get the full price back for canceled events, but Eventim withholds fees. More than 1500 people have already joined the model declaratory action. The Federal Cartel Office has also been keeping an eye on the company for some time because of its dominant position.
