Eventarena – FMG Supervisory Board postpones decision – Munich

The investors in the large, new concert arena in Freising have to wait about a month for the next step. According to information from SZ, the airport committees have postponed the decision on whether to sell the required area until the end of November. The city, as a shareholder, had insisted on this, fearing for the future of its Olympic hall because of the threat of competition. The new building for 250 million euros on the area near the visitor park S-Bahn stop is intended to attract top international stars for whom the Olympic Hall in the city is too small or not modern enough. This has just been extensively renovated, but for reasons of monument protection it cannot offer the high standards for boxes or huge stages that are often used on tours. Munich city politicians still want to keep the vital concert business in the Olympiapark and are unanimously against the new arena at the airport. Economic advisor Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU) and also the Greens want to torpedo the plans in Freising with a new hall of a comparable size. This could arise in the Olympic Park on the site of the ailing ice sports center. The investors see no competition between their project and the Olympiahalle.
