Annette Kurschus wanted to advance the process of dealing with abuse in the Protestant church. When she gave her inaugural speech as council chairwoman of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) two years ago, she said: “I will make this issue a top priority.” Now she has fallen because of an abuse scandal.
