Strack-Zimmermann should run for the liberal EU alliance

The FDP is sending its controversial defense expert into the European election campaign. She should now also become the top candidate of the liberal European Alde Alliance.
The FDP politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann is also said to be the top candidate of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats Europe (Alde). According to information from the German Press Agency, the defense politician has the necessary support for an official nomination planned for March 20th. She is already the top candidate of the FDP, which belongs to the Alde.
With a nomination from the European Alliance, she would, in a sense, be competing against Ursula von der Leyen, who is nominated as the top candidate of the Christian-conservative European party family EPP.
The liberal Renew group in the European Parliament actually consists of three parties, including Alde, the French Renaissance of President Emmanuel Macron and the EDP (“European Democratic Party”), which also includes the Free Voters. It is expected that the Liberals will compete with a trio, which could also include the current Renew parliamentary group leader Valerie Hayer and, for the EDP, its general secretary Sandro Gozi. The European elections in Germany are on June 9th.
