It is always amazing how insensitive the Bundestag deals with issues that touch the core of parliamentary democracy. You could see that again on Thursday. The members of parliament only voted after 11 p.m. on the repetition of the Bundestag elections in parts of Berlin – an unprecedented event. Such an important topic should be discussed in front of packed grandstands. This also applies to the debate on lowering the voting age to 16. But the Bundestag only conducted this at a late hour. Voting was at 9:43 p.m. Most of the seats in the plenary hall were already empty.
