World and European champion Oliver Zeidler underpinned his ambitions for the title at the European Rowing Championships.

On the regatta course in Oberschleißheim, the 26-year-old easily won his semi-final in singles ahead of Melvin Twellaar from the Netherlands. Zeidler, who had problems in the initial phase, easily dominated the competition in his race.

“It felt good,” said Zeidler, who enjoyed the home atmosphere on the first day of the final with the eight-wheel race as the highlight. “I hope that we can get more people interested in the sport,” said the man from Munich. 50 years after his grandfather’s Olympic victory, Zeidler also wants to win gold on the same facility.

The medals will be awarded on Sunday. Then Alexandra Föster will also be in the final. The 20-year-old stunned the experts with her victory in the World Cup finals in Lucerne almost five weeks ago and won the U23 World Championships shortly afterwards.
