The German triathlon mixed relay won silver at the European Championships in Munich after catching up.

After a few problems with Valentin Wernz as the first starter, Nina Eim, Simon Henseleit and Laura Lindemann brought the team into second place to the cheers of thousands of spectators.

The German quartet had no chance against the French. Led by European Champion Leo Bergere, the Equipe Tricolore won after 4 times 300 meters swimming, 7.2 kilometers cycling and 1600 meters running with a superior lead of 33 seconds. Switzerland secured bronze 16 seconds behind Germany.

Second medal for triathletes

After silver for Lindemann on Friday, second place in the Olympic relay brought the second medal for the German Triathlon Union in the continental title fights in the Olympic Park. Jonas Schomburg from Langenhagen finished seventh in the top ten for the men on Saturday over the short distance of 1500 meters swimming, 40 kilometers on the bike and ten kilometers running.

Wernz from Saarbrücken had sent Nina Eim into the race with a deficit of 43 seconds after problems on her bike. After a strong performance, the fourth-placed from Potsdam handed over to Simon Henseleit from Nuremberg, who brought the team up to second place.

Lindemann and the Swiss final starter Julie Derron were together until the changeover on the running course. Then an early intermediate sprint by the woman from Potsdam brought the decisive advantage. The Frenchwoman Cassandra Beaugrande could no longer be caught.
