The decision about a relay start from 100-meter European champion Gina Lückenkemper on Sunday at the European Championships in Munich’s Olympic Stadium was made at short notice.

“That will probably only be decided on Saturday, so we really have to see how the leg and the seams work,” said the 25-year-old in an interview with Sky TV. “But we’re really in good spirits.”

Lückenkemper suffered a laceration on her leg with her spikes when she fell after crossing the finish line of the sprint final on Tuesday, which had to be stitched up. “I have a lot of faith in the girls that they will rock it without me on Friday. I think they can do it,” she said. The medal fight for the German sprint relay, which won bronze at the World Championships in Eugene, begins on Friday with the preliminary heat.
