Ceferin: Security at the European Football Championship “biggest concern”

In geopolitically highly uncertain times, the European Football Championship is being played in Germany. The UEFA President is worried – but appeals.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has assured security during the European Football Championship in Germany described as a big challenge.
“In these crazy times, when the world is going geostrategically crazy, security is the biggest concern,” said the 56-year-old in an interview with the English newspaper Telegraph. He has already met with Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser twice, and further meetings are planned because of the “completely aggressive” geopolitical situation.
“My fear is not just about the stadiums,” said Ceferin. “Because the stadiums, I’m sure, will be well protected. But the fans will also be in the cities.” But he appealed to be optimistic. With the support of the German authorities, “who are very determined to help us,” everything will go well. The possible qualification of Ukraine or Israel for the final round would increase the dimension of the security issue even further.
The European Championship will kick off on June 14th in Munich, the final is planned for July 14th in Berlin.
