The strike, the death of an actor and popular stars: These are the reasons for the delay of “Euphoria” season three.

Season three of the acclaimed series “Euphoria” is still a long time coming – but it’s coming. Speaking to the industry magazine “Variety”, a spokesman for the US broadcaster HBO refuted rumors that the third round was no longer coming. “HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to producing an exceptional third season,” Variety said. And further: “In the meantime, we are allowing our sought-after actors to pursue other opportunities.” The second season of the series by Sam Levinson (39) started in 2022.

The “in-demand actors” mentioned by HBO are actually one of the reasons for the delay of “Euphoria” third installment. Since the second season of “Euphoria,” the cast has taken another big leap forward in terms of celebrity.

Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney are more in demand than ever

Zendaya (27), who won an Emmy for her performance in the first two seasons, was already a star before “Euphoria” started in 2019 – thanks to “Spider-Man”. Her schedule hasn’t gotten any thinner since then. She can currently be seen in the cinema with “Dune 2”, a third part is just a formality. Her new film, the tennis drama “Challengers – Rivals”, will be released at the end of April.

Jacob Elordi (26) is the male star of the moment. In the Amazon phenomenon “Saltburn” he played one of the two main roles as the scion of a super-rich family. In “Priscilla” he portrayed Elvis Presley (1935-1977). Sydney Sweeney (26) is something like the female counterpart to Jacob Elordi. The actress is omnipresent right now, from the romcom “Where the Lie Falls” to the superhero flop “Madame Web” to the horror film “Immaculate,” which will be released at the beginning of April.

Strike and death of a performer as further reasons for delay

In addition to the problem of coordinating Zendaya, Elordi and Sweeney’s schedules, there were other reasons for the delay of season three. The double strike by the writers’ and actors’ unions brought production of series, films and shows to a standstill at the end of 2023.

On July 31, 2023, Angus Cloud, who played dealer Fezco in “Euphoria,” died of a drug overdose at the age of 25. For all these reasons, season three of “Euphoria” is not expected until 2025.
