EU Vice Margrethe Vestager warns against long-term energy aid – economy

Commission Vice President Margrethe Vestager explains how state aid from EU governments will continue, why Europe needs a new economic model and how she wants to tame internet companies.

This morning there are croissants in the sun-drenched office of Margrethe Vestager, 54. The Executive Vice President of the EU Commission resides on the 12th floor of the Berlaymont building, the headquarters of the Brussels authority. The croissants are left over from the office breakfast one of Vestager’s employees had to celebrate having passed a selection process by the commission. Vestager herself became EU competition commissioner in 2014 and retained that responsibility when she was promoted to vice-president in 2019.
