EU: Unido boss Müller advocates supply chain law – politics

As a minister, Gerd Müller helped write a supply chain law. Now he is warning against letting the European law fall through. The decisive vote is scheduled for this Wednesday.

Shortly before what was probably the final vote by the Council of Ministers on the EU supply chain law, the former development minister Gerd Müller urgently warned of failure. “There must be no business models based on child labor and exploitation,” said the CSU politician, who is now head of the UN Organization for Industrial Development (Unido) in Vienna. Global trade is a “game changer,” said Müller South German newspaper. “But it can no longer make the rich richer and the poor poorer.” Excluding starvation wages, child labor or forced labor “should be a given,” said Müller. The EU Supply Chain Act could help change this.
