EU-Ukraine – Summit to be held in Kyiv – Politics

Contrary to initial information, the summit announced by the EU with Ukraine will not take place in Brussels but in Kyiv. This was announced by the President’s Office in Kyiv on Monday evening after a phone call between Head of State Volodymyr Zelensky and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. At the meeting planned for February 3, the EU will not be attended by the heads of state and government, but only by von der Leyen and EU Council President Charles Michel. A spokesman for Michels had already announced this in December. Since the summit is now to take place in Kyiv, speculation about a possible further foreign visit by Zelenskyj after his surprising trip to Washington in December has also ended. According to the Presidential Office in Kyiv, during the phone call Zelenskyj and von der Leyen also discussed the situation on the fronts in the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Ukraine’s progress towards EU membership and the EU’s financial support for the country were also discussed.
